Strange Flowers Collection

Well I have been a Nars fan for many years and have written quite a few post on them on the blog. But I have never been more excited for the launch of the new Nars x Erdem Strange Flowers collection. Ever since Vogue had the exclusive news break on the collection I was mesmerised by the whole collection and started to save my pennies. So imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to hear Erdem himself talk about the inspiration behind the collection.

It is really interesting to see in a designer collaboration that the collection will include 13 pieces that are completely brand new for Nars even down to the formulas. That in itself is unheard of. But this collection has been a long time in the making and has taken a total of 3 years to create.

The collection consists of:

  • 6 Lipsticks (Bloodflower, Moon Orchid, Larkspur, Voodoo Lily, Wildflower, Carnal Carnation) – £22 each
  • 2 Eyeshadow Palettes (Fleur Fatale, Night Garden) – £35 each
  • 1 Lip Palette (Poison Rose) – £35
  • 2 Blushes (Loves Me, Loves Me Not) – £24 each
  • 1 Universal Highlighting Pencil (White Phox) – £21
  • Blotting Powder – £15

Not only did I get a chance to hear in detail the attention to detail that he put into each piece of the collection like the fact that the red shade is based on the lipstick his mother would wear or that the colour blue used in the packaging is the same bespoke colour he created that is in his studio. But I got to watched Jane Richardson who is an amazing make up artist recreate the campaign look used for Strange Flowers.

One of the stand out product for me was the highlighting pencil. In fairness I don’t normally wear purple and it was something that I was unsure if it was going to suit me but when I tried it on my skin I instantly fell in love. It is so easy to use and it has multi uses too. So when I tried it I applied it to my cheek as highlight and blended in with my fingers. Also used it as a base for my eyeshadow. A good trick I learnt from Jane Richardson was that if you are experimenting with a new colour and you are scared to take the plunge then add it with something that you already do. So with the eyeshadow look on the campaign I would keep my trusty liquid eyeliner at first to dip into this look.

So in the next couple of weeks I am going to be trying out these products and posting up my thoughts and reviews from wearing it and how easy they are to create looks with. What I can say is from the quick play I had of them on the night I know I am going to be in love. Beware this collection is Limited… and I mean limited edition so you really need to move quick if you want any of these pieces.

Love that he is using a red lipstick in a color he saw in his mother. Very nastalgic! Having those insights sometimes gives me ideas about how to use a color – I might wear a red like that when I’m doing something I know my mom would enjoy. Thank you for sharing!
