Beauty Review – Fenty Beauty

Everyone in the beauty world has been waiting for the most anticipate launch this century… (Well maybe a bit of an exaggeration) but I have been so excited to see what Rihanna would bring to the beauty market that has a million and one of the same products and ideas out there. So once the promo shoots and marketing materials posted online on her website and instagram page I knew that something special was about to happen. So many times you see a new product launch with foundations in 8 or 10 shades that really do not cater to the vast spectrum of colour that we are as a collective the human race. So when I read that the cornerstone of the collection the ‘Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation launches in 40 shades I was really shook! 40 SHADES!!!! That is incredible and it is about time a brand stepped up the mark and catered for all skin tones. Not only has she peaked my attention with the shades the claims for this foundation are pretty impressive. To quote….

“Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil- free formula is made with climate- adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin – so you always look like you.”

Big claims there so I am very excited to try this one out. As you may not know Fenty beauty is currently exclusive to Harvey Nicholls in the UK which makes it difficult to figure out your shade as  purchasing foundations online very rarely go right. So I have tried to venture to Harvey Nicholls London just as it launch to get shade matched but the line was unfortunately too long. However I’m hoping to hit a Sephora in UAE very soon so hopefully I can pick up the foundations and update you on the product!

However there were a few products that I could pick up online that I didn’t need to shade match so I can properly review these. I first want to say for a new brand that I feel the pricing is very good as it sits just below high end products in the market. So for her Matte Foundation you are looking to pay £26 for 32ml (1.08oz) which is good price when you compare to other foundations on the market.

Similar products and prices

  • Giorgio Armani – Luminous Silk Foundation £40 for 30ml (1oz)
  • Lancome – Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H Liquid Foundation £31.50 for 30ml (1oz)
  • Mac – Studio Fix Fluid £23.50 for 30ml (1oz)

My next product that I did manage to get hold of that has been splashed crossed social media is the Killawatt highlighters. This year a key trend in the beauty world is highlight. The mission is simple to perfect that sun kiss glow that showcases the best parts of your face. I have to admit I am totally for this trend and I currently switch between my Kevyn Aucoin and Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes. But again this product really peaked my interest so I had to click add to basket. So for launch Fenty they have released 6 freestyle highlight in the following colours:

  • Trophy Wife – 3D Hyper – Metallic Gold
  • Metal Moon – Mega- Fine White Gold Pearl
  • Lighting Dust/ Fire Crystal – Soft Pearlescent Sheen/ Supercharged Pearlescent shimmer
  • Mean Money/ Hu$tla Baby – Soft Champagne Sheen/ Supercharged Peachy Champagne shimmer
  • Girl Next Door/ Chic Phreak – Soft Pink Sheen/ Supercharged Peachy Pink shimmer
  • Ginger Binge/ Moscow Mule – Soft Copper Sheen/ Supercharged Copper shimmer

So I started with the Trophy Wife highlighter and I must stress this is extremely pigmented. When I first tried it on I used the cheek hugging highlight brush and lightly coated the brush. I applied it to the cheekbone and it was just like a huge hit of yellow gold. Way too much so a little goes a very long way. I think that if you are looking for just an everyday glow this is not for you as it is very intense. That being said as I holiday look in the sun to apply to your body will look amazing. So next I tried the Metal Moon highlighter and this was the mega-fine white gold pearl and this one was the complete opposite of Trophy Wife. It is very subdue once applied and really gives you a pearlescent glow. Is it my favourite ever highlighter… not really but I have a warm beige skin tone so my personal choice would be to go towards the bronzer colours but the formula and feel of it is really good.

My next product that I tried was the Universal Lip Luminizer that comes in just one colour Fenty Glow. So apparently this colour has been handpicked by Rihanna herself and is meant to be a universal colour that suits everyone. I must say I am really impressed the Rose Gold colour is a perfect nude for me and I love the way it feels on. It really does feel hydrating on. This would also work well over a nude coloured lipstick for added intensity. For £16 again it sits just below the high end brand. Is it something that I say you must run out and buy right away? Probably not but if you are in the market for a new nude lip gloss then I would say it would be worth a try as I really like it.

So I have had the opportunity to play around with some of the products at home and in store and I must say I am really impressed. For a new beauty launch to enter the market and really think about spectrum of colour that we are as a consumer is incredible. Not every product is going to perfect for everyone but there is really something in the collection that you can really say that this is your product. The rumours on social media that there is an additional products coming to the collection are so true with the Galaxy collection landing in stores 13th October. Can’t wait to see the new products and no doubt add to my every growing Fenty collection.
