Huda Beauty – Faux Filter Foundation Review

There has been so many foundation launches this year that I have landed up with a handful of favourites that I can use for different occasions and climates. But as soon as I heard Huda Beauty was launching a foundation I knew that I had to try it no matter what. So Friday 13th came and it was very lucky for some as the new Faux Filter Foundation launched around the world. So I was very tempted to order online but looking at the shade guide I wasn’t 100% sure I would match my colour correctly even though Huda Beauty did produce a shade comparison guide on there website.

Huda Beauty Shade Guide

So I risked it and waited for my day off to make it down to Harrods to get shade matched in store and I am so glad that I did as I think I would of picked the wrong shade. Even though the shade guide is good if you can get to store then do it. It is worth noting that the foundation oxidises slightly when applied so don’t go too dark a shade compared to your skin tone.

I didn’t try the Faux Filter primer with it I used the Hourglass Veil Primer and followed my normal skincare routine prior to application. A little goes a long way with this foundation as one pump covered my entire face. This foundation is full coverage and you do not need to use any more than one pump. Also good to note that you do not need to use setting powder with this foundation however after hearing a lot of reviews that the foundations looks better when set with powder I lightly dusted over my face with Guerlain Les Voilettes. Below is what the foundation looks like just after application.

So I am totally hooked on this product my skin looks brighter and my complexion looks flawless (even though there are a few sneaky flaws). I literally do need a filter for my pictures today. Even though it is a full coverage foundation it doesn’t feel heavy wearing it. During the day I checked up on my makeup after lunch and the only thing that I needed to touch up on was my lipstick. Below is a picture after wearing Faux Filter for 9 hours and it is still going strong.

I must say I love Faux Filter Foundation by Huda Beauty and I can’t wait for the next product to come out. I’m officially a Huda Addict!!!

Available from and Cult Beauty for £32 for 35ml

Spotlight on Hourglass…

So I recently visited Liberty London as I had a spare hour and what is better than exploring the most amazing department store ever. As per usual the Beauty hall is the first place I like to explore. I say it time and time again but Liberty just know how to make your shopping experience world-class,  with a great mix of brands and level of service second to none.

As I’m exploring this grand room I decided to go back to the Hourglass counter as I had bought a lip treatment oil back last year that was amazing in the winter months so I was intrigued to try out a few more products from the brand as I always hear about them in magazines and on the beauty blogs.

So as I approached the counter the makeup artist for the brand were so warm and inviting luring me into to try some new goodies to inevitably add to my ever-growing collection. The first thing I was keen to try was there Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick.

As a foundation I tend to you for a medium to full coverage and with this you can build it right out up to full with it still feeling very lightweight on. The unique formula gives you instant coverage and there was no need to use a concealer after as it was that good! So the key claims and benefits of this foundation are that is 12 hour Long-Wear, suitable for all skin types, satin finish. This foundation doesn’t have SPF in it but you can always use a primer that does to counteract that problem. Vanish also has the best shade range in their collection with 26 shades spread across Fair to Deep shades. Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation £42 ( Worth noting that yes it is on the more pricey side but you don’t need to buy a concealer when uses this so you are getting a great 2 in 1 deal.

Also good to note that a brush works so much better to blend in the foundation than a sponge and it is a lot quicker. The hourglass brush is really good as it is especially made for the Vanish foundation however at £42 it is rather pricy and you could probably use something very similar. Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush £42 (

Next on my try list was a lipstick. I have been looking for some more neutral colours as I have been using a lot of bold matte colours recently so I wanted to look for something a bit different to add to the collection. So the Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick was the range I was instantly drawn to. The shade that I have gone for after much decisions is I’m Addicted (which I literally am). Once applied the lipstick feels very lightweight but the pigment is there with one swipe of the product. Again this is another product that does last throughout the day and I only reapplied once after eating. As the lipstick is slim you can line your lips with it first making it another 2 in 1 product eliminating the need for a lip liner if you desired. However I tried out Panoramic Longer Lipliner and it works fantastic with it. The colour that matches this lipstick is Eden. I also like that fact that the lipstick is refillable and the applicator is compact and sleek which is easy for travelling. Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick £28 ( Refills £18

Now the one product that I cannot wait to try is the Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 palette. It really does look amazing with 6 shades in one compact palette that is all you need to finish, brighten, contour and highlight your skin. Looking at the swatches on different skin tones it really does compliment from fair to dark. The shade descriptions are as follows:

  • Ambient Lighting Powder – Dim Light
  • Ambient Lighting Powder – Diffused Light
  • Ambient Lighting Bronzer – Luminous Light
  • Ambient Lighting Blush – Surreal Halo
  • Ambient Lighting Blush – Pure Effect
  • Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder – Hypnotic Strobe Light

At £69 this is not a cheap product but the shades are amazing and if you are looking for a way to contour and highlight to make you look like you have that natural radiant glow this is the palette for you. (

Overall I am very impressed with Hourglass products of what small selections that I have tried. The collection is very versatile and you can use products for multiuser. Yes the price is not cheap but the quality of the product speaks for itself. I definitely would recommend all the products I tried out. When I was trying on the makeup the artist there explain a bit about the brand and I think the main thing that I like about Hourglass is that they don’t use Parabens, Fragrances, Gluten, Sulphates to name a few… So it makes applying to sensitive skin a dream.

Guerlain Intense Liquid Matte

I recently was invited to have a makeover in Guerlain Selfridges and as my favourite brand I was there in a heartbeat. The brand has won a place in my heart forever especially as there skincare products has changed my skin for the better. So I was excited to try out some new products.

Well did I fall in love?…Yes I did! This liquid lipstick is incredible. The colour intensity is insane with one swipe the colour was not streaky. You get a bold intense colour. When applied it feels very creamy and not drying at all which is partly to do with the formula that contains Hyaluronic Acid and Tiger Grass.

Worth to note that at the moment there are only 7 shades available but heres to hoping that they will release more shades as the formula is stunning. The colour I am wearing is M27 Addictive Burgundy. £25 from Selfridges.

Let me take you on a journey….

So in my previous post I mentioned that I wanted to share my story with you of my skincare journey. So that is exactly what I wanted to do. I have to admit a year ago if you asked me what skincare I used that answer you would of received is… “ I don’t need a skincare routine I am under 30 and young” oh how naive I was. If I could turn back time (Yes I did sing that in a Cher voice) I wish I had taken the time to really invest in myself and my skin. It is never to late to make a change for the better and at the end of the day I really found myself taking pride in my time that I set a side for cleansing or the 30 minutes with a face mask on. But where do you even start? How do you even start? Well it is simple… the first thing you need to do is evaluate you. Throughout these post I am sharing what works for me and my skin type but what works for one may not work for all so the first thing that is necessary to do is to figure out what your skin type is.

Now there are many ways to do this but the easiest way I learnt was from a book called “The Makeup of a confident Woman” by Trish McEvoy. Who I must say is such an inspiration to me. Her knowledge of the beauty world is second to none and she is not only a world class make up artist but a mentor, life coach and all round vision of female empowerment. In her book the technique she used to determine your skin type was as follows:

  1. Wash your face with a gentle face wash
  2. Wait 15 minutes
  3. Assess your skin and see if it is the following.

Irritated – Then you have sensitive skin

Tight – Then you have dry skin

Balanced – Then you have normal skin

Shiny all over – Then you have oily skin

Shiny on the T- Zone – Then you have combination skin

Once you have established what type of skin you have then it will make the process of selecting products that much easier as depending on your skin type will determine what properties and ingredients you need to look for. So when I tested my skin type I found that I have sensitive skin which was no surprise as I do suffer with Atopic Eczema. However when it comes the colder months my skin does tend to get dry so it is worth noting that you skin can change during the seasons. So if your skin changes then so does your routine.

I guess after you have discovered what your skin type there is no time like the present to start making a positive step in your routine starting with cleansing. Cleansing is a key step in my routine as it really does give your skin a fresh canvas for the day ahead. It also gets rid of all the impurities of the day so it works both way.

For me I very much like to use a micellar water as it contains little cleansing oil molecules. So it a multipurpose product that can be used as a facial wash, makeup remover and to add moisture to your skin. My current favourite choice is the Guerlain – Eau De Beaute Micellar lotion. (£37.50 for 200ml available at Yes it is a little pricey but it works for me so I’m rolling with it. This one has an exclusive fragrance for Guerlain that has delicate scent of white tea and jasmine and feels really refreshing when using it.

However if you don’t want to spend as much I have found some really great options that won’t break the bank!

Bioderma – Sensibio H20 (£10.50 for 250ml available at

Great for sensitive skin.

Garnier – Micellar Cleansing Water ( £4.99 for 400ml available at

Suitable for all skin types.

Ren – Rosa Centifolia 3 in 1 Cleansing Water (£13 for 200ml available at

Great for dry skin

La Roche-Posay – Effaclar Micellar Water (£12 for 200ml available at

Great for Oily and sensitive skin.

So as you can see there are many options out there for micellar waters and different price points too so it is very easy to find something just right for you.

Beauty Review – Fenty Beauty

Everyone in the beauty world has been waiting for the most anticipate launch this century… (Well maybe a bit of an exaggeration) but I have been so excited to see what Rihanna would bring to the beauty market that has a million and one of the same products and ideas out there. So once the promo shoots and marketing materials posted online on her website and instagram page I knew that something special was about to happen. So many times you see a new product launch with foundations in 8 or 10 shades that really do not cater to the vast spectrum of colour that we are as a collective the human race. So when I read that the cornerstone of the collection the ‘Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation launches in 40 shades I was really shook! 40 SHADES!!!! That is incredible and it is about time a brand stepped up the mark and catered for all skin tones. Not only has she peaked my attention with the shades the claims for this foundation are pretty impressive. To quote….

“Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil- free formula is made with climate- adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin – so you always look like you.”

Big claims there so I am very excited to try this one out. As you may not know Fenty beauty is currently exclusive to Harvey Nicholls in the UK which makes it difficult to figure out your shade as  purchasing foundations online very rarely go right. So I have tried to venture to Harvey Nicholls London just as it launch to get shade matched but the line was unfortunately too long. However I’m hoping to hit a Sephora in UAE very soon so hopefully I can pick up the foundations and update you on the product!

However there were a few products that I could pick up online that I didn’t need to shade match so I can properly review these. I first want to say for a new brand that I feel the pricing is very good as it sits just below high end products in the market. So for her Matte Foundation you are looking to pay £26 for 32ml (1.08oz) which is good price when you compare to other foundations on the market.

Similar products and prices

  • Giorgio Armani – Luminous Silk Foundation £40 for 30ml (1oz)
  • Lancome – Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H Liquid Foundation £31.50 for 30ml (1oz)
  • Mac – Studio Fix Fluid £23.50 for 30ml (1oz)

My next product that I did manage to get hold of that has been splashed crossed social media is the Killawatt highlighters. This year a key trend in the beauty world is highlight. The mission is simple to perfect that sun kiss glow that showcases the best parts of your face. I have to admit I am totally for this trend and I currently switch between my Kevyn Aucoin and Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes. But again this product really peaked my interest so I had to click add to basket. So for launch Fenty they have released 6 freestyle highlight in the following colours:

  • Trophy Wife – 3D Hyper – Metallic Gold
  • Metal Moon – Mega- Fine White Gold Pearl
  • Lighting Dust/ Fire Crystal – Soft Pearlescent Sheen/ Supercharged Pearlescent shimmer
  • Mean Money/ Hu$tla Baby – Soft Champagne Sheen/ Supercharged Peachy Champagne shimmer
  • Girl Next Door/ Chic Phreak – Soft Pink Sheen/ Supercharged Peachy Pink shimmer
  • Ginger Binge/ Moscow Mule – Soft Copper Sheen/ Supercharged Copper shimmer

So I started with the Trophy Wife highlighter and I must stress this is extremely pigmented. When I first tried it on I used the cheek hugging highlight brush and lightly coated the brush. I applied it to the cheekbone and it was just like a huge hit of yellow gold. Way too much so a little goes a very long way. I think that if you are looking for just an everyday glow this is not for you as it is very intense. That being said as I holiday look in the sun to apply to your body will look amazing. So next I tried the Metal Moon highlighter and this was the mega-fine white gold pearl and this one was the complete opposite of Trophy Wife. It is very subdue once applied and really gives you a pearlescent glow. Is it my favourite ever highlighter… not really but I have a warm beige skin tone so my personal choice would be to go towards the bronzer colours but the formula and feel of it is really good.

My next product that I tried was the Universal Lip Luminizer that comes in just one colour Fenty Glow. So apparently this colour has been handpicked by Rihanna herself and is meant to be a universal colour that suits everyone. I must say I am really impressed the Rose Gold colour is a perfect nude for me and I love the way it feels on. It really does feel hydrating on. This would also work well over a nude coloured lipstick for added intensity. For £16 again it sits just below the high end brand. Is it something that I say you must run out and buy right away? Probably not but if you are in the market for a new nude lip gloss then I would say it would be worth a try as I really like it.

So I have had the opportunity to play around with some of the products at home and in store and I must say I am really impressed. For a new beauty launch to enter the market and really think about spectrum of colour that we are as a consumer is incredible. Not every product is going to perfect for everyone but there is really something in the collection that you can really say that this is your product. The rumours on social media that there is an additional products coming to the collection are so true with the Galaxy collection landing in stores 13th October. Can’t wait to see the new products and no doubt add to my every growing Fenty collection.

Growing old… Gracefully

Well another year has flown by and I’m one step closer to the big thirty. Where has the time gone? So I thought it would be a great opportunity to share the changes I’ve made in my skincare to really take the positive steps to remain youthful. When I was younger I always used to laugh at the pots and potions that you see advertise in the magazines. I never fully understood the value of good skincare until this time last year. I suffer with atopic eczema so my skin has never been that great but after a lengthy stay in hospital back last year my skin and my confidence was at an all time low. So fast forward one year and so much has changed in my life and I can truly say that life has blessed me. I am at the stage now where not only is my health improving but my happiness is too. So after the struggles with my skin I really started to do my research and look for ways to improve my skin after years of using steroid creams to battle eczema. My skin was looking dull and aged and that is not a cute look for someone who had turned 28. Now I must say that this journey has not been cheap for me and I do love a luxury product so this is something that worked for me and throughout my skin care post that I will be doing I will be trying to find some alternative products that are at the lower and mid end of the spectrum so that you can really find something within. My one piece of advice that I can give to anyone who is interested in changing up your skin care routine is that this is process that takes time and can be very trial and error but once you find the right combination the youthful glow will shine through. So that being said I am so happy to be back writing and keep posted for my first post on my skincare journey.

September beauty picks… The Desert Dusk Palette

Well it seems like forever since I managed to sit down and just have time to write but for the rest of the year I am going to make a real effort to be inspired and write about all my favourite things. I normally write about fashion and that is what I love to do but this post is going to be a little different. As some people may know I do love Beauty and Makeup and I really want to expand my knowledge in this area. I would say I’m more of a beauty connoisseur and my collection has rapidly grown. As I am still in the learning stages I am going to just write reviews and my thoughts on products but as I gain more knowledge and skills a few videos may pop up which is my goal for 2018. So I’m super excited to start my very first beauty review blog for my September picks….

So if you don’t know who Huda Kattan in the makeup world she is the aspiration level of many Beauty Bloggers. She went from a makeup artist to the No. 1 beauty blog in the Middle East to building her beauty empire “Huda Beauty” who just successful launch worldwide a brand new eyeshadow palette… Behold the Desert Dusk Palette. As a newbie in the beauty world palettes can be scary as it could just look like a sea of colours but the team at Huda got this palette so right. It has a great mix of colours and textures so you can really create your inner desert princess look.

So what do you get for the price? Well the price tag is a little pricey at £56 but with that you get 18 shades, 25.2g  (If you do that maths that is £3.11 per colour… Not bad when you look at it that way).

The palette includes 8 Matte shades which are highly pigmented which range from soft sandy nude tones to vibrant purple.

  • Blazing, Saffron, Amethyst, Oud, Amber, Eden, Musk, Desert Sand

6 Pressed Pearls shades in plum, bronze and rose hues.

  • Turkish Delight, Angelic, Cashmere, Royal, Nefertiti, Blood Moon

3 Duo – Chrome Toppers (Best applied with fingers)

  • Retrograde, Twilight, Celestial

1 Pure Glitter.

  • Cosmo – Which I am in love with!!!!

FullSizeRender 6

So would I recommend this palette? I really do love it. Yes the price is quite high but you are getting 18 shades in beautiful packaging (mirror included in palette) in different textures. I think the best thing about this palette is the versatility of the end use you can use as little or as many as you want. I think if you are out to create truly unique looks that you don’t find that often in palettes and the Duo – Chrome toppers are truly amazing. So if you like to experiment with colours I would definitely purchase this. Available at Selfridges, Harrods and Cult Beauty.

Keep an eye out on my instagram @style_hunters_uk for updates and pictures. Hope you enjoyed this little review and please comment or message if you have any products that you would like me to review.

Time for change….

So I feel like I have had a bit of a revelation this year. I have just decided that this will be my year in all ways. Life is really changing before me and it is because I am making it happen. One of my resolutions this year was that I wanted to explore the world and I have really made a start on that. In January I got the opportunity to go back to my hometown of New York, USA with my mother which was such an amazing experience to spend time with family and to get some serious retail therapy in (My credit card was not happy with me). But now I am starting to explore new places which leads to my holiday to the beautiful Monte Carlo.

Everything about this tiny Country is just magnificent with views from every inch. Monaco has always been a place that I wanted to visit with such a rich history. It is also one of the rich countries in the world with the most millionaires and billionaires living there. So it truly is a breathtaking place filled with yachts, fast cars and expensive things.

So picking outfits for this holiday was definitely going to be a challenge. How to look glam, stylish and rich on a budget was the main goal. I think I managed to fit in. A carefully selected dress wardrobe was definitely needed to look glam but still feeling comfortable while exploring. So this Fat Face Paige Vintage Flora dress is an absolute no brainer. The midi length makes it perfect for the taller woman like myself so you don’t feel like you are wearing practically nothing. The main thing is to make sure you pay attention to your accessories. A good pair of sunglasses, A good hat and bag will definitely make your outfit. I am in love with Quay Australia sunglasses and the are my go to brand. Its also good to get a neutral based hat that you could wear with anything and that will protect you from the sun.

I went with this wide brim black and beige hat from Whistles. It is also reduced down from £50 to £25 now so it is really a great buy if your planning a trip somewhere in the sun. Also it is key to have a great little bag that you can take from day to night. This one from LK Bennett was a perfect choice that great pop of colour to jazz up any outfit.

So I have now really going the travel bug and can’t wait for my next adventure…. Tomorrow it is Ibiza time for a girlie weekend away. The holidays just keep on coming….

What about the tall people…

As a tall person of society the struggles are real when it comes to clothing. Do you know how hard it is to find a pair of jeans that has an inside leg of longer than 31 inches? it’s like trying to find buried treasure. So when it comes to finding something to wear for an occasion it really is a pure mission to find something. I always find that your opinions are generally limited on the high street unless you have legs for days and can flaunt them. But for the rest of us mere mortals we want something that is stylish, flattering and not too short. The high street is great for catering to the petite ladies with vast ranges  with the proportions perfect but for anyone over 5 foot 9 you really have to hunt and search for something. Last year was perfect because the trend was midi dress and the year before maxi dresses so we kind of had a solution. So this year I was determined to find somewhere to buy a dress that at least was to my knee.

As it turns out the high street this season is very limited on dresses on the knee and below unless you look to places like Coast and LK Bennett that are really catered to occasion wear. But if you do have the budget for a dress looking at approx £200 + then online is the place to go. Normally I don’t like to buy clothing online unless I have tried it on previously as sizing across different brands can be really different but I visited the brand Elsie Attic online and found it really easy to use and there size guide really does explain each style of dress to make picking your size right the first time easy. So I purchased this beautiful (see picture above) vintage inspired A line rose dress that has a full skirt that would sit just below the knee. Giving the fabric and the construction of the dress you would get great movement from the full skirt and the slim belt just gives you added detail.

They really do have a great range of dresses in the full skirt longer length but also through out the style ranges of starting from the mini dress ranging right down to maxi dresses. The range also caters for petite and plus sizes so there is really something for everyone. If you like a bit of colour this is definitely the place to go with some interesting print options to make you stand out in the crowd.

So in one swift click I purchased the dress and 3 days later it was with me which was so efficient and that is why I am spreading the word as this is going to be my first place I look to buy an outfit for an occasion. Be sure to following me on instagram @style_hunters_uk to see my final outfit pictures next week.

My Spring updates….

Well the clocks have officially gone forward which means Spring is really in the air. That also means time to pack away my winter wardrobe and say hello to sunny days and being outdoors. So as per usually you kind of look at your spring things and think what can I do to add some newness. So I have bought a few add ons for my wardrobe to step into spring in style.

First off I am loving the bomber jacket trend so this very pink ladies style jacket was the first thing to come home with me. Its nice and lightweight and just adds a bit of cool to a casual outfit. The graphic detail at the back gives it a luxe feel with the flower embroidered on the back. From & other stories £95 (

FullSizeRender 3

Next up on my spring shopping trip was a slogan top. This is such a fun trend this season that I couldn’t resist. I went through a phase working in luxury retail that I always wore black and then transfered to my out of work wardrobe too. So now I am really embracing colour in my life. So this beautiful bright red (red/orange if you are being exact) is a breathe of sunshine to my normally quite dull wardrobe. As you can see the “Vacation” slogan is very perfect for me right now as I need one desperately. From Whistles £79 (

My final update is the light weight blouse. I think this one is perfect to dress up and down for the spring time. Pair of skinny jeans and a pair of heels = nice evening out look. Pair of chino shorts and sandals = relaxed casual look. So I like to have things that are versitile in my wadrobe that I can wear over and over again but make each look completely different. This top does it all, and I love that it is longer at the back to hide my sins. From Fat Face £35 (

So that is my updates so far but I am always on the hunt for new exciting finds so keep and eye out for my latest finds.
